Scale of AI Content

The platform announced that there are presently 1.3bn videos on its service tagged as artificially created. Collectively, over 100 m videos are added to the service daily, making AI content a limited percentage of its total content library.

How to Adjust Settings

Viewers will be capable of reduce or increase the amount of artificial media they view by accessing the “manage topic” option in the app and selecting the AI content topic. Additional categories that currently be adjusted under the setting include current affairs, clothing, beauty, and choreography.

Content Safety Approach

TikTok has justified its safety measures, during controversy over intentions to make redundant numerous review team members in the UK. The company is planning to eliminate 439 jobs in its content moderation department in London, with trade unions and online safety experts expressing worry that staff are being displaced by automated systems.

A company official stated that staff-based oversight would still have a role, but automated tools can safeguard staff by removing the most graphic content ahead of it has to be seen by people. TikTok reported a 76% decrease in explicit and harmful content seen by human moderators over the previous year due to reliance on its AI tools.

We believe it is crucial to combine staff and AI to ensure user safety,” the official commented. “We’ll have humans as integral to the approach, but we further consider it’s very important to limit contact with dangerous material as rapidly, which is why a significant AI assistance is proving valuable work at speed.”
