Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 titles have been earned on hard courts
A comeback Medvedev secured his first title for over two years with success over Corentin Moutet in the tournament championship match.
The Russian, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a challenging season, winning just one match at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.
The player's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and issues with his serving in particular - resulted in him exiting of the world's top 10 and eventually parting ways with long-time trainer his previous coach.
Now training with his coach and Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually progressed in the recent weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over challenger Moutet.
It is his initial trophy following the Italian tournament and first on a hardcourt since that period of that year.
Victory also signifies he has achieved twenty-one victories at twenty-one different events.
"For the first time I have attended a competition with my children simultaneously, so to secure a trophy is really nice," said ranked player the champion.
"This victory is in tribute of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I achieved when my child Alisa was delivered was for her."
The tennis star, the former major winner, had been defeated in his last six championship matches, featuring in the German tournament in the past months.
His defensive approach and recurring emotional displays on the playing surface had prompted observers to doubt if his ability to compete at the highest level was over.
However the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, attempting to approach the net and play assertively, reinforced by an improved serve.
He recovered from a break down in the initial set against the challenging opponent, taking 4 of the final five points to go ahead.
The pair swapped service breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, striving for his initial tour victory, gained dominance to force a final set.
Moutet rescued 4 early chances in a tight final set before Medvedev secured a break to fifteen to close out the victory.
Appropriately, he secured the win with a rally at the net area, with Moutet unable to manage a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
